In our laboratory, the sample will be processed, examined and prepared for stem cell storage. A certificate will be issued with a unique number corresponding to your baby’s stem cells.
A critical element in any successful stem cell transplantation is the number of stem cells transplanted into the patient. For current applications, which are mainly blood and blood related disorders, the stem cells needed are approximately 20-35 million Total Nucleated Cells (TNC) per kilogram body weight. However, the number of cells obtained in the collection process can fall below these limits, meaning that the sample may not be useful for treatment. In such cases, the decision to continue with storage is entirely yours. Cryo-Save monitors and participates in the latest clinical trials, in an effort to ensure that in the future, the optimum number of cells can be harvested from all samples – even those that fall below these limits.
